The courts could have said prior art, case dismissed or patent stands, Apple owes Creative $10 for every iPod sold since day 1.Well, looking at the rough numbers, this settlement has Apple paying about $1.70 for every iPod ever sold.
I would have (personally) rather seen Apple take the same stand that IBM has taken in the SCO case... but I understand Apple's position on this too.

Woohoo! 3GHz here we come. As was mentioned before, though, a mid-sized tower priced at the iMac level (but upgradable) would be the final logical step in the Apple product line. That would leave Woodcrest to the high end MacPro with its quad configuration.I might be able to slide with a $1799 education discount tower. I want a laptop though. :(

Second, Creative makes a lot more than mp3 players. They were not going anywhere with mp3 players.
3rd, they are a very durable company, have servived many ups and downs in the computer industry and are a very efficiently run company out of Singapore.

No, follow our "logic" (I'll use the term loosely and admit to doing so).
1. Merom is out.
2. Other laptop makers have release Merom machines, or will do so in the very near future.
3. IF Apple wants to stay competitive with other laptop makes THEN it must also release a Merom laptop line within a similar timeframe.

Now, using a little precedence we know there are two ways Apple really releases products. "Silent" updates accompanied by a change on their website plus a press release. The other is at a media event with a keynote. As we don't know how much of an upgrade this will be (just chip or case redesign?) it is not unreasonable to assume that the next major even may involve this release, given that the MacBook Pro is a product line at least tangential to photography for a lot of people. Neither is it unreasonable to think they would release them the week before as they did with the iMac.

Well if it gives you 64 bit memory addressing then it certainly is a newer chip
64bit addressing arrives with the new cpu. so the point is that napa64 isn't really new, it just uses merom instead of yonah.

All i can say is that i will buy a Core 2 Duo iMac when they come out and my parents will be buying a Core 2 Duo tower if such a thing is introduced (not mac pro):)

I personally love how I get the bad rap, when the woman was the one going under the speed limit and attempted to breakcheck me first. She got what was coming to her. This is a fundamental issue with DRM solutions - you, as the consumer, have to hold the private key. They (Apple) can obfuscate where that key is, but in the end it has to be accessible in some manner. It's the same thing with iTunes DRM. If someone cares enough, they can almost certainly retrieve the private key (which is how Requiem works).
I'm guessing Apple may make some half-hearted move or another; but I doubt they care all that much.

The Core 2 processors (Merom, Conroe and Woodcrest) are based on a 65nm dual-core 64 bit architecture - the desktop and workstation chips are based around the mobile Merom architecture.
Core 2 promised about 20% more performance at the same power requirement as the Core chip at the same clockspeed.

Cloud is a awful idea, and I hate streaming video technology too because you never can "own" or store the items on YOUR computer in the event something happens.
I can't believe so many people are following this cloud crap like its a good thing.
Essentially you'd be paying for items that run on the companies servers in which they pretty much can hold the data hostage.
2nd, servers do go down and most broadband companies employ caps now (which is ridiculous since internet use is increasing) so that is another issue.
3rd, if becoming hugely popular, storage space on devices is no longer going to be a priority. (though really hasn't been the last few years for apple anyway)
If I pay for something it should be on MY computer not some company that can change their policies at any time for any reason. Including boosting prices.
Now cloud based services would make a nice side kick to storage but it definitely should not kill the current module of downloading stuff to your computer and allowing you to "own" the content and move it how you please.
Unfortunately the general population don't have the brains to really see the negatives to any apple ideas.
